📖 Overview
Shey Phoksundo Lake Trek is one of the most beautiful off-the-beaten-path trekking routes in western Nepal. The trek leads to the stunning turquoise Shey Phoksundo Lake, located at an altitude of 3,610 m inside Shey Phoksundo National Park.
The lake is sacred to both Buddhist and Bon religions and attracts trekkers from around the world. The journey begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, followed by a scenic mountain flight to Juphal in Dolpa.
The trail passes through remote villages, dense forests, rivers, waterfalls, and rocky landscapes, offering opportunities to witness rare wildlife such as musk deer, blue sheep, Himalayan Thar, and even snow leopards.
Key attractions include Ringmo Village, Thasung Choling Monastery, Kanjirowa Himal views, and the spectacular 167 m Suligad Waterfall.
Nepalgunj serves as the gateway city, rich in culture and close to the Indian border. Flights to Juphal operate in the morning due to mountain wind conditions.
The best seasons for this trek are Spring and Autumn, although it is possible year-round with proper arrangements.
